TC 170 is starting to become a familiar label in the South African KM community. TC 170 refers to the technical committee working on establishing a KM standard for South Africa under the auspices of the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS).
The SABS invites participation from the Knowledge Management community to develop a framework of standards for the field of Knowledge Management tailored for the South African context. This standardization of the KM Framework will comprise of methods, processes, tools and techniques, that enables any organization to develop and access relevant advice, knowledge and experience to improve performance, sustainability and competitiveness within their operating environment.
Scope
Standardisation of a scalable and flexible framework for Knowledge Management that respond to an organisation’s environment, optimises growth of and access to relevant actionable advice, knowledge and experience to optimum delivery, continuous innovation, performance improvement and the development of strategic organisational capability to enhances competitiveness in the ever–changing local and/or international operating environment.

• Standards and/or Guidelines for Knowledge Management.
Call to Action
The SABS hereby invites you to contribute to proposed standard by becoming a member of the Technical Committee 170 (TC 170). Membership of the committee is available on one of two levels, viz:
• P-membership (participating): enjoys full voting rights, where votes are cast regularly and timeously, and that all meetings be attended;
• O-membership (Observer): receives committee documents and has a choice to submit comments and to participate in meetings, but no voting right or obligation.
Representatives at both levels receive all documentation, and it is possible for the membership level to be changed on request.
There is also the option to attend meeting via a Web-based client.
